Importance of Travel Insurance
Getting your travel insurance sorted is an important part
of preparing for a backpacking trip. Without it, you can
end up in all sorts of trouble, with no security, support
or help to back you up. So, before taking a leap of discovery
in a different country, make sure all the potential dangers
are covered. Travelling with your home on your back is all
about the unexpected, but it’s better to be prepared.
First of all, theft and loss are two highly common stresses
when backpacking. Despite the outwardly scruffy, poor appearance
you are likely to adopt - brought about by roughing it in
hotels, caravans and beaches – it is likely that your
bags will be will be full of mp3s, iPods and digital cameras,
along with your passport and money. Theft isn’t uncommon
in poorer countries and locals will be more than aware of
their more affluent visitors, so it’s a very good
idea to get these vulnerable gadgets insured before you
set off, just in case.
No traveller wants to put themselves in any kind of health
or physical danger abroad without a very good insurance
bundle to get them out of it. Let’s face it, you’ll
probably want to take risks away from home and take part
in extreme sports and other hair-raising ventures, but you
really don’t want to fork out lots of money if you
have an accident. Without the right coverage, even a minor
injury could result in a fat bill from a local medical service;
you’ll be shocked at the price you may have to pay.
There are loads of packages you can take out before you
travel, but think carefully about what it is you want covered,
make sure you know what part of the world you are in and
whether or not the company you’re with stretches that
far. It’s no good getting insurance for Europe, and
not realising where Europe begins and ends.
A really good company to browse is Go
Travel. They have set up a Backpacker’s Insurance
to specifically cover the sporty side of things. The package
includes bungee jumping, scuba diving, surfing, sailing
and canoeing, so you can afford to be a fearless traveller.
The package also covers loss and theft and the ever-important
24 hour medical emergency.
Despite all this precaution, remember that although getting
travel insurance is a must-do, you have a much better
chance of not injuring yourself at all, and your trip should
be full of harmless fun. Also, take a look at Holiday Extras for travel insurance, as well as a number of other useful travel products.
