Three essential places to visit in Andalusia

Andalusia is a stunning region in the South of Spain that has some of the most amazing beaches in Europe as well as some of the greatest sites of historical interest. The whole region is so flooded with culture and tradition that you can almost drink it – in fact, as the birthplace of sherry, you can drink it!

The capital of the region is Seville, and according to legend, named after Hercules and was also occupied by the Moors, which has had a huge impact on its architecture. One of the most exciting places to visit is the Real Alcazar, an amazing palace in the Moorish style. Seville also has an extraordinary nightlife, with more bars per person than anywhere else in Europe - it can become a little too much if your not used to it, as the party doesn't stop until 7am!

If you want to avoid the city streets, and just want to soak up some sun, then Andalusia has the longest coastline in the whole of Spain. There are beaches running literally for miles in either direction, for as far as the eye can see; of these the Costa del Sol is amongst the most famous and, having been built mainly for tourists, is one of the best at catering for sun worshipers. Of course it's on the Mediterranean so you can not only sit back and sunbathe, but you can also swim in the warm sea.

If you want to do something a little more adventurous then you might consider a hike in the Sierra Nevada. This is a mountainous area that has Spain's tallest mountains. If you feel even more adventurous again you can find even more extreme sports such as paragliding, rock climbing, and even skiing. Most of these activities take place in the Sierra Nevada National Park, which is home to a great deal of wildlife, so should you get tired of leaping off cliffs, or rambling for miles, you could always take a leisurely stroll and listen to birdsong.
With flamenco, great tapas, some of the wildest horse races in the world and some of the greatest wine, Andalusia is a stunning region of Spain to visit. Travel to the region is easy because of the growth of Internet suppliers. Cheap flights can be found at the bargain finding website Travelzoo, while for families, Abercrombie an Kent is a great website to book luxury villas.  Also, don’t forget those little extras such as travel insurance before you go. AA Travel is a good place to start if you haven’t already got travel insurance as part of your package.
